Incident Safety Officer

  • Day 1 – Tuesday
    0800-1700: Classroom

    Highlights:
    • Introductions, Course goals and scopes, discussions covering the Role of the Incident Safety Officer including: Basic duties and responsibilities of an ISO, knowledge of typical response incidents, work with departmental Health and Safety Officer (HSO), ISO as a risk manager, response criteria for ISO, characteristics of an effective ISO, specialized knowledge and skills, basics of the Incident Command System (ICS), ISO's function in an ICS organization
    • Use of emergency incident scenarios in individual and group discussions

  • Day 2 – Wednesday
    0800-1700: Classroom

    Highlights:
    • Discussions covering regulations, standards and policies along with recordkeeping and documentation. Includes: Identify the different rules, infection control, hazardous materials, confined spaces, developing a support system, introduction to recordkeeping and documentation, firefighter fatality and injury data, importance of recordkeeping, type of documentation, accident and injury analysis, confidentiality, Post-incident Analysis (PIA)
    • Use of emergency incident scenarios in individual and group discussions

  • Day 3 – Thursday:
    0800-1700: Classroom

    Highlights:
    • Discussions covering risk management and incident considerations. Includes: The ISO's role in emergency risk management, forecasting, acceptable risks, unacceptable risks, ISO's communications, the monitoring function at the incident scene, safety at the incident scene
    • Use of emergency incident scenarios in individual and group discussions
    • Course review, Student Critiques, Final Examination
