Railroad Tank Cars

Various railroad tank cars, both pressurized and non-pressurized, have been the scene of numerous hazmat training sessions.

The pressurized car is derailed and on its side and the non-pressurized cars are upright and still on the tracks.

The cars are fitted to provide a variety of leak scenarios, such as valve packing, tank wall punctures and tears, various piping failures, valve failures, or any combination of all. The high pressure combined with a potential low-pressure leakage is also available with this prop.

Highly skilled responders are required to deal with these types of potentially deadly hazmat release situations. The skills practiced here can often mean the difference between a safe, efficient control effort or a potential disaster.

Learning these lessons at the Fire Science Academy, under a controlled environment, is important for any responder responsible for railroad emergencies.
