Course Description

HAZWOPER 24-Hour / Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations

This course covers the technical aspects of initial response to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances. This 24-hour course, targeted to initial responders to hazardous releases and those responsible for handling, storage and transportation of hazardous materials, satisfies the requirements for first responders in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119(n) and 1910.120(q)(6)(ii). Classroom instruction and hands-on field exercises address defensive response without attempting to stop a release, including safe containment and prevention of exposures; basic hazard and risk assessments, control, containment and confinement operations; selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and fundamental decontamination techniques.

There are no prerequisites for this entry level course.

Important Notice Regarding Hazmat Training:
Students will conduct fieldwork in approved personal protective equipment, including SCBA and other appropriate equipment, which can be physically and mentally strenuous.
