Course Description
HAZWOPER 40-Hour / Hazardous Materials Technician
Technicians are personnel and plant employees who respond to the release of hazardous materials with the purpose of stopping the release and reducing losses. This 40-hour course, targeted to personnel who respond to a hazardous materials incident to control the release, meets the requirements for technicians in accordance with OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.119(n) and 1910.120(q)(6)(iii). Classroom instruction and hands-on field exercises address pre-emergency planning and the Incident Command System (ICS); identifications, recognition, containment and confinement of hazardous materials; monitoring and detection devices; chemical and toxicological behavior; selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and decontamination techniques
For acceptance to this course, students must meet the perquisite of attending the FSA HAZWOPER 24-Hour/Hazardous Materials First responder course or have received equivalent training.

Important Notice Regarding Hazmat Training:
Students will conduct fieldwork in approved personal protective equipment,
including SCBA and other appropriate equipment, which can be physically
and mentally strenuous.
