Course Description

Confined Space Rescue

This 40-hour course builds on the skills developed during the Rope Rescue course and provides techniques for safe removal of patients from confined spaces. Classroom instruction addresses operating in a confined space environment; a review of ropes and knots; patient packaging; mechanical advantage; command; the response evolution; hazard and risk analysis; confined space respiratory protection; confined space communication; and confined space ventilation. Field exercises emphasize the lessons learned in the classroom and allow participants to participate in all assignments of the rescue team. Practical exercises are conducted in simulated and actual confined spaces.

For acceptance to this course, students must meet the prerequisite of attending the FSA Rope Rescue course or have received equivalent training.

Important Notice Regarding Rescue Training:
Students will conduct fieldwork in approved personal protective equipment, working with actual rescue tools and appliances, which can be physically and mentally strenuous.
