Course Description

NWCG S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior

This is 32-hour course is targeted to personnel desiring to fill the roles of supervisory dispatcher (EDSP), and fire effects monitor (FEMO) or personnel who desire to be qualified as a single resource boss. This training meets the requirements for NWCG S-290 and is designed to prepare the prospective supervisor to undertake safe and effective fire management operations. Through classroom instruction, students will learn to identify and describe the environmental, topographic, and fuel factors that influence the behavior of wildland fire. Students will learn to identify and describe the causes of extreme fire behavior, assess fire line data and fire behavior estimations, and identify areas where fire suppression limitations exist.

For acceptance to this course, students must be qualified as a Wildland Firefighter I (FFTI).
